Kapil Sibal demanded to stop live streaming
West Bengal government lawyer Kapil Sibal said before hearing the case, listen to us for 5 minutes. Our request is regarding the live streaming of this matter because if you make any comment, my reputation of 50 years will be called into question. An atmosphere is being created on social media that we are standing on the side of criminals by supporting the Bengal government. My 50 year old reputation is being destroyed overnight.
‘We will not ban live streaming’
He said that it is being said in the media that I was smiling during the hearing. I never laughed and people were riding it. This is a very serious and sensitive matter. So live streaming of this case should be banned. CJI said, ‘No, we will not ban live streaming.’
After this the CJI said that we will first look at the status report of the CBI. CJI Justice Chandrachud asked what is the deadline for filing the charge sheet in this case? SG Tushar Mehta replied that under the new law there is a period of 60 days in a rape case, but here it is rape and murder, so a charge sheet has to be filed within 90 days.
The CJI said that the investigation into the matter is going on fast. CBI is investigating all the aspects which were discussed in the last hearing. Be it a challan or spoiling a crime scene etc. He said that SG has submitted the report. So we will listen to them.
‘CBI will have to give enough time’
The SG then said that we will be very careful while filing the charge sheet. Indira Jaisingh, counsel for the parties in the case, said that we will give the names of people present at the crime scene to the CBI in a sealed cover. The Supreme Court expressed satisfaction over the CBI’s investigation. The CJI said there is still time to complete the investigation. Sufficient time will have to be given to CBI. They can’t sleep. He should be given time to bring out the truth.
